Franke & Heidecke
Rolleiflex 3.5 MX Camera

+ Extras

I remember my dad buying this when I was a kid. It was a big deal for the whole family. He was an amateur photographer with his own darkroom. Had a filing drawer full of photos of friends and family that he would enter in photo contests. Made a couple of Chamber of Commerce publication covers.
Anyway, both my dad and my cousin from Sweden wanted to buy Rolleis so dad went to a camera store in NYC and made a deal with the owner. He would buy 2 and test them, return them, repeat until he had checked his whole stock (maybe 10 or 12, it took a couple of weeks) as these were hand ground lenses and so had minor differences. Anyway the upshot is that this camera was handpicked from a group as having the best picture quality in that group, for whatever that's worth.
This Rollei is 50 + years old. It looks well used and it was. It has been all over New England and eastern Canada, hauled up every mountain my dad made us climb (I loved it, my sister, not so much). It has taken thousands of pictures.
25 years ago, my dad died and it has been in A/C storage since.
I have never used it since I was a kid. But it seems to work OK; you can see the shutter trip and the F-stop move, etc. The various hoods and view finders all pop out and seem to work.
Dad had bought a 35mm Nikon FM-1 when we moved to Florida so this got packed in the funky camera case that you see here. There are a bunch of filters and accessories that may or may not belong with this camera. Some are Rollei and do fit, the Leica and Wetzler seem like they could be used but I am not sure. There are a couple of handmade adapters, so maybe.
The camera's leather case is original and has had the hinge repaired / replaced with a homemade hinge with a removable pin. The case is coming apart, but the leather is OK, stitching has come loose.
